The government intends to award a sole source purchase order for office furniture to UNICOR Federal Prison Industries under FAR Part 12 regulations governing the acquisition of commercial items. The procurement is being conducted without full and open competition because the required furniture must match existing pieces already in the facilities to maintain uniformity across office environments. This ensures system commonality and meets agency requirements in accordance with Subpart 6.302-1(a)(2), which allows awarding to only one responsible source when no other suppliers can fulfill the need. The contracting activity responsible for this procurement is the USPFO for Maine, operating within the Department of Defense framework. The contract solicitation was posted on July 31, 2008, under NAICS code 337211, associated with office furniture manufacturing. Interested parties or those seeking further clarification are directed to contact Mrs. Darlene Howes, the Contract Specialist, via email or telephone. The purchase order will be awarded in Augusta, Maine, under the authority that justifies sole source procurement due to the unique nature of the requirement.
