The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued a notice of intent to sole source for the procurement of one Hamilton Medical MR1 Mechanical Ventilator. This device is intended to complement the agency’s current inventory of Hamilton Medical ventilators in order to streamline supply management and reduce costs by using common consumables. The MR1 ventilator is specially designed for use within MRI suites, allowing continuous patient ventilation during MRI scans. It is compatible with 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla static magnetic field scanners and includes features such as the integrated TeslaSpy magnetic field navigator, advanced patient-adaptive ventilation modes, up to nine hours of battery life, and support for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients. Additionally, it provides independence from compressed air, noninvasive ventilation, integrated high flow oxygen therapy, and adaptive support ventilation, making it versatile for use in ICU settings, transport, and various clinical scenarios. This acquisition will be conducted under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13 guidelines for simplified acquisitions, specifically allowing for a sole source procurement due to the limited availability of this specialized equipment and the desire to maintain standardization across existing ventilators. Interested parties are invited to express interest or provide comments, but the government reserves the discretion not to compete based on the responses received. The contract specialist for this procurement is Ryssa Nix, reachable via email, and the work will be performed in Bethesda, Maryland. This notice underscores the NIH's intent to leverage existing vendor expertise and equipment compatibility while ensuring sophisticated patient care during MRI diagnostics.
