**Maximo WO# GM7G3G (Design)** GENERAL: Building 394 lacks a safe means of egress to the first floor within existing corner fire emergency exit (mauka stair) due to heavily termite damaged wood. (See attached enclosure to location of stair). Reconstruct and improve fire emergency stair to meet code requirements to provide fire life safety of users. Continuous degradation leading to closure of stairs will impact mission functions as it promotes a hazardous work environment. Currently, building occupants are briefed to not utilize corner stairs unless of an emergency due to poor condition. Per NFPA 101 – Section 7.6 - Measurement of Travel Distance (table A.7.6 Common Path, Dead end, and Travel Distance), corner stairs shall remain operable as total closure will not meet NFPA means of egress travel limits. EXISTING CONDITION: Building 394 is a Category III Type Historical Classification. Building 394 is a two-story structure with a total gross floor area of 139,000 SF. Building is constructed as concrete and wood framed walls with corrugated metal panels anchored to framing. Concrete columns are utilized on the first floor and wood columns on the second floor which support wood truss roof structure. Stair #2 is constructed of wood and is suspended through wood framing. IMPROVEMENT: - Demolish Stair #2 (Corner Wood Frame Stairs) due to excessive termite damage - Design / Replace overall stairs with non-combustible pre-fab stairs or termite treated wood. - Provide fire rated shaft to protect Stair #2 (currently exposed wood frame stairs to second floor) - Provide direct exit to the exterior of building per fire code requirements. (stairs currently exits into interior space of building)
