The Department of Defense, through the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic, is seeking information on commercially available Interactive Virtual Environments (IVE) to support the Air Force Medical Modeling & Simulation program's development of a proof of concept for a Virtual Medical Center (VMC). This virtual platform aims to provide personalized avatars for users to navigate a virtual world where patients can interact with medical providers and other patients through text and Voice-over-Internet Protocol communication. The VMC environment will include multi-specialty clinics, virtual lecture halls, classrooms, laboratories, and doctors' offices, and it must support virtual training and scalable network architecture capable of handling thousands of concurrent users with high reliability and low latency. This Request for Information (RFI) is intended solely for information gathering and planning purposes and does not represent a solicitation or a commitment to award a contract. Respondents are asked to provide company details, product descriptions, pricing information, and points of contact by August 23, 2011. The government will use the responses to assess existing technologies for potential application in the VMC initiative but will not pay for any submissions or enter into contracts based on this RFI. All submitted information will be publicly accessible, so proprietary data should not be included. Questions and responses should be directed to designated government contacts via email, with a focus on supporting the development of a robust and scalable virtual medical training and interaction environment.
