The Department of Defense issued a Request for Information (RFI) on April 17, 2003, seeking concept papers from U.S. firms capable of designing and producing the SLAMRAAM weapon system. The goal was to identify contractors with the highest likelihood of successfully meeting SLAMRAAM requirements. Responses to the RFI were intended to determine which companies would be granted access to restricted intelligence information necessary for submitting detailed proposals to the formal Request for Proposal (RFP). After evaluating submissions received by May 1, 2003, the government selected four firms deemed most likely to succeed in the program: Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Raytheon Company, and Teledyne Brown Engineering. These companies are now eligible to submit full proposals and may explore subcontracting opportunities with interested parties. The contract encompasses development, demonstration, production, engineering and technical services, logistics support, fielding support, and spares for the SLAMRAAM system, with activities coordinated through the Department of Defense office at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
