Small and Medium Uncrewed Ground Vehicles (UGVs)

The Department of National Defence of the Government of Canada, through the Directorate Joint Robotics and Autonomous Systems, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) under solicitation number W8703-270008 to gather industry input on current capabilities for Small and Medium Uncrewed Ground Vehicles (UGVs) intended for tactical logistics and casualty evacuation operations. This RFI is not a solicitation for proposals or a commitment to award a contract, and no agreement will result solely from this effort. The government seeks detailed information on four distinct UGV variants: Small Wheeled UGVs (up to 410 kg) for urban and semi-urban resupply and CASEVAC, Small Tracked UGVs (up to 410 kg) capable of traversing mud, snow, and rubble while carrying combat loads or a single litter casualty, Medium Wheeled UGVs (410 kg to 1,700 kg) designed for sustained long-range logistics support, and Medium Tracked UGVs (410 kg to 1,700 kg) built for maximum off-road mobility in austere environments. All variants must operate day and night in challenging conditions including dust, smoke, fog, precipitation, low-light, and GPS-degraded or contested electromagnetic environments, and must support both manual remote control and semi-autonomous modes with human oversight. Respondents are required to submit their responses using Annex A, which includes a supplier information form demanding legal business name, business address, procurement business number, and NCAGE code, along with declarations on Controlled Goods Registration and facility security level. Responses must be submitted electronically only via email to the designated point of contact, Alisha Fridland, with the subject line “Small and Medium UGVs RFI,” and must not exceed 8 MB in size; physical media such as USB drives are prohibited. The deadline for submission is June 24, 2026, and no proposals or pricing details are requested at this stage. A future Request for Proposal is anticipated in summer 2026, with potential deliveries scheduled for 2027. Any resulting procurement may be subject to the Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy, requirements for NATO manufacturing origin, and policies including the Defence Production Act, Federal Contractors Program for Employment Equity, and the Government Contract Regulations. While this RFI is not subject to the Controlled Goods Program, future competitive processes may require compliance with the Contract Security Program and other government procurement directives.
