The US Army Corps of Engineers Portland District is planning to hold ongoing quarterly training and outreach events aimed at small businesses in the Construction and Supply/Services sectors interested in contracting with the District. These events are intended to prepare small businesses for maximum participation in future projects, particularly the long-term seismic retrofit and rehabilitation of the Department of Veteran's Affairs Portland Medical Center scheduled for 2021. The initiative also seeks to benefit all small contractors looking to engage with the USACE on any upcoming opportunities. The first event, held on April 10, 2019, featured an overview of the DVA project and facilitated discussions to shape the training offerings. Existing training modules cover key areas such as submittal processes, safety, and quality control, with potential plans for a matchmaking event with large prime contractors alongside the annual Portland District Industry Day in November. The outreach is designed to be interactive, encouraging small businesses to provide input on the training and information that would best prepare them for working either directly with the Portland District or as subcontractors under large prime contractors. Active participation from the small business community is emphasized to ensure the events deliver meaningful value and enhance their ability to compete for District contracts. Registration for these events is managed through an online platform, and Carol McIntyre, the Small Business Specialist for USACE Portland, serves as the primary contact for questions and further engagement. The outreach supports small business development within the construction sector and aligns with NAICS code 236220, operating out of Portland, Oregon, with performance locations in Clackamas, Oregon.
