This contract involves site preparation through mounding across approximately 229 hectares of cutblocks previously planted, where reforestation efforts have failed due to herbaceous competition and drought damage from 2023. The purpose is to control herbaceous vegetation and create microsites to improve conditions for reforestation planned for 2027. Contractors must carefully preserve healthy existing crop trees where possible. The work area presents logistical challenges, including remote locations, steep slopes exceeding 35%, incomplete harvesting in some blocks, and the necessity to cross streams with machinery without causing environmental damage. Temporary bridging or similar solutions will be required for stream crossings, with specific guidance provided during the prework meeting. Some treatment areas remain to be finalized in the field, so the total area may change. Bidders must thoroughly review the contract and all schedules before submitting tenders. Questions must be submitted in writing by 4:30 pm on February 1, 2026, with answers posted the next day. Tender submissions must conform to specified conditions, and certain bid deposit types cannot be submitted electronically. Award decisions will consider factors beyond just the lowest bid, and results will be posted on BC Bid following tender opening and contract award. The contracting authority for this opportunity is the Prince George Timber Sales Office under the Government of Canada.

Full Description

The purpose of this contract is to control herbaceous vegetation and create microsites on cutblocks that have been previously planted. This contract includes approximately 229 hectares to be mounded. Please note there may be changes to the final treatment areas for areas that have yet to be laid out in the field. All of the blocks in this contract are blocks where reforestation has failed due to a combination of high herbaceous competition and drought damage from 2023. These blocks will be replanted or fill planted in 2027. The contractor should work diligently to preserve any existing, healthy crop trees where feasible. This contract includes some challenges including the remote location of blocks, steep slopes (>35%) in some areas, deactivated stream crossings to access some blocks or areas within blocks, and incomplete harvesting on some blocks. For deactivated stream crossings, the machinery must not cause damage to any streams. Most of the streams are less than 1.5m wide, except for the stream accessing TA0174-8 which is an S3 (1.5m – 5m wide). Spanning the streams with a temporary structure or other materials for machinery will be required. Further stream crossing guidance will be discussed at the prework with the successful contractor. Some blocks still require treatment unit layout. Those treatment areas are approximate and may decrease or increase in size. Please review the contract in full, including all Schedules, before submitting a bid package.Questions & AnswersAll contract related questions must be submitted in writing ONLY to the following email address: Forests.PrinceGeorgeTimberSalesOffice@gov.bc.ca.Deadline for receiving questions is 4:30 pm on February 1, 2026.
