The Tobacco Centers of Regulatory Science (TCORS) initiative, anticipated to be released in July 2026 by the National Institutes of Health in collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products, aims to fund multidisciplinary research centers focused on generating scientific evidence to inform tobacco product regulation and advance public health under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. These centers must encompass at least three distinct, hypothesis-driven research projects unified by an integrative scientific theme, with each project falling within the regulatory authority of the FDA CTP and addressing one or more key areas such as addiction, behavior, communications, health effects, impact analysis, marketing, product composition and design, or toxicity. Funding for this program will be administered by NIH using resources allocated through the FDA CTP and the FSPTCA, and applications may include clinical trials on an optional basis. The initiative emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to strengthen the evidence base supporting regulatory decision-making. The Tobacco Regulatory Science Program serves as the primary point of contact for inquiries, with all submissions and communications directed through the provided email address. The notice is currently forecasted and not yet open for submission, with no specific application deadline, set-aside classification, or NAICS code published at this stage.

Partnership with Common Fund Data Ecosystem ResourcesThe NIH Office of Strategic Coordination through its Common Fund is seeking partnerships between Common Fund data programs and external biomedical data resources to improve the reusability and integration of Common Fund datasets within broader scientific ecosystems. The initiative aims to advance the FAIR principles—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—by fostering collaborations that bridge the Common Fund Data Ecosystem with other significant NIH data platforms such as the HEAL Data Ecosystem, BRAIN Initiative, Cancer Research Data Commons, ImmPort, TOPMed, and the Medical Imaging and Data Resource Center. These partnerships are intended to develop shared resources that enhance data connectivity, enable cross-platform analysis, and promote broader scientific utility of Common Fund data without supporting new clinical trials. The funding opportunity is open to non-CF biomedical data resources that can contribute infrastructure, tools, or expertise to amplify the impact of Common Fund datasets. Applicants must propose concrete plans for integration, interoperability, and sustainability of jointly developed resources. While no specific funding amount or deadline is indicated in the provided data, the solicitation was posted on August 6, 2026, and inquiries may be directed to the Common Fund Data Ecosystem Program via cfde@od.nih.gov. This effort reflects a strategic push by the NIH to unify diverse biomedical data ecosystems under common standards, enabling more comprehensive and efficient data-driven research across disciplines and institutions.
