??The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department proposes the construction of a minor new recreational facility: a 400-linear-foot multi-use trail. This trail will be 3-feet wide with a native earth surface and will connect the existing Los Alamos parking lot at Hood Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve (Hood) to the existing Salt Creek trail, providing an improved, safe, and designated link to the Sugarloaf Ridge State Park (Sugarloaf) trail system. The facility is designed for non-motorized, multi-use recreation, including pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian use.
?Construction Methodology and Impact Minimization:
?The trail has been situated to avoid impacts to the existing wetlands and riparian corridor on site.
?The construction will be limited to the use of hand tools by volunteers, minimizing ground disturbance. To prevent erosion, the trail will be built as a full bench cut, on contour, out sloped, and designed with rolling grades.
?No grading, tree removal, or mechanized equipment will be required. Standard BMPs will be employed to prevent construction run-off.
?The work will be scheduled to avoid the sensitive bird nesting season. An on the ground biological resources study reports no sensitive species found or expected in the project area.
?
?The project constitutes a public enhancement connecting the substantive trail systems at Hood and Sugarloaf and protects natural resources by directing visitors to designated, properly constructed trails. ?
