Watson Water Diversion Removal and Stream Crossing Project (Notification of Lake or Streambed Alteration, No. EPIMS-MEN-65336-R1C)

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has authorized James Watson to proceed with two controlled streambed alterations under EPIMS Notification No. EPIMS-MEN-65336-R1C. The first alteration involves upgrading an existing 12-inch culvert to a 24-inch diameter culvert, including complete removal of the old structure, excavation, backfilling, compaction, and rock armoring to prevent erosion. Concurrently, approximately 25 feet of stream channel directly upstream will be restored by removing 2.31 cubic yards of accumulated sediment and reshaping the streambed to a 6-inch width and 1-foot depth with 2:1 side slopes. The second alteration entails the decommissioning of obsolete water diversion infrastructure, requiring removal of a 55-gallon barrel and between 0.65 and 1.3 cubic yards of fill material from the stream, with a minimal disturbance footprint of about 12 square feet. All work is limited in scope and designed to reduce environmental impact while improving stream hydrology and habitat conditions. The project is managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Region 1 - Northern Region, with Penny Lancaster serving as the primary point of contact.
