Workers’ Compensation Legal Counsel (Suffolk County Dept. of Law)

The Suffolk County Office of Central Procurement, on behalf of the Department of Law, is seeking qualified legal counsel to provide professional services for the county's self-funded and self-administered Workers’ Compensation Program. The selected contractor will be responsible for representing the county at hearings mandated by the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, managing case activities such as depositions and appeals, and collaborating on resolution strategies including Section 32 and lump sum settlements. The anticipated contract term runs from January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2029, with three optional one-year renewals extending the potential performance period to December 31, 2032. Proposals must be submitted via the Bonfire portal by October 19, 2026, and must include a transmittal letter, a separate cost proposal, and various compliance documents, including the Public Disclosure Statement and Lawful Hiring forms. Award decisions will be based on the best interest of the county, evaluating general qualifications, technical services, and cost, rather than selecting the lowest bidder. The contract requires strict adherence to New York State Workers’ Compensation Board standards, cybersecurity regulations, and local legislative requirements. Payment is processed within thirty days of voucher approval by the county Comptroller, and the contract is subject to annual fund appropriations by the County Legislature.
