AI Contract Overview
The U.S. Navy intends to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to Task Aerospace, Inc. for the acquisition of the Task Aerospace PN 740055-1 cartridge actuated initiator along with its associated test fixture design. This contract supports the CAD/PAD Joint Program Office’s goal of diversifying sources for the JAU-72B/A Cartridge Actuated Initiators, specifically for the V-22 external initiators. The initiator plays a critical role in initiating the ballistic sequence to sever assemblies during an emergency aircrew escape scenario. Task Aerospace developed their design based on specific performance requirements and will now provide test samples and fixtures to verify performance under this acquisition. The contract is expected to be awarded on July 2, 2026, with an estimated value of $850,000 and a performance period from August 1, 2026, to August 1, 2027. It will be awarded under an existing Basic Ordering Agreement, with no competitive solicitation planned in accordance with FAR 6.103-1, which allows for sole-source contracting when only one responsible source is available. While this notice is not a request for competitive proposals, interested parties may submit capability statements for consideration should the Government decide to pursue competition. The contract is managed by the Naval Air Warfare Center Air Division, with performance located in Indian Head, Maryland. Interested parties seeking subcontracting opportunities are encouraged to contact Task Aerospace directly.

Full Description
This is a notice of intent to award a sole-source, firm-fixed-price contract to Task Aerospace, Inc. (CAGE: 99YV8, UEI: URXHLS476EB4) for the acquisition of the Task Aerospace PN 740055-1 cartridge actuated initiator and its associated test fixture design. The U.S. Navy requires the procurement of developmental CAD/PAD technologies critical for the CAD/PAD Joint Program Office’s mission, specifically in widening the CAD/PAD JPO sources of supply for JAU-72B/A Cartridge Actuated Initiators. This acquisition will allow for feasibility testing of an alternate source of supply for the JAU-72B/A V-22 external initiators in support of the CAD/PAD Joint Program Office.
The estimated award date is 02 July 2026 and the estimated value is $850,000. The estimated period of performance is 01 August 2026 to 1 August 2027. The Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source, Task Aerospace, Inc., under the authority of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.103-1, "Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements."
Task Aerospace, Inc. investigated the V-22 external initiator and performance requirements from NCRADA-NSWCIH-24-308, developed their design for the V-22 external initiator, and now this acquisition of test samples and test fixture will verify the TASK PN 740055-1 performance. The V-22 external initiator initiates the ballistic sequence to detonate the severance assemblies in an emergency aircrew escape scenario. Additionally, this contract will be awarded under an existing Basic Ordering Agreement between the Government and Task Aerospace, Inc.
