Athletic Fields Turf Replacement

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is undertaking a project to replace artificial turf systems on six athletic fields, specifically four at Foothill College and two at De Anza College. The scope of work includes the removal of existing turf and infill, localized inspection and repair of the aggregate base, shock pad, and drainage systems, and the installation of new synthetic turf with field markings. All work is restricted to the existing field footprints to ensure there is no expansion of facility use or capacity. The project requires the use of PFAS-free materials and heat-reduction technology, and it must include an end-of-life management plan for recycling or disposal. The project is classified as a forecast with a posted date of August 11, 2026, and is managed by David Fisch, Director of the Capital Construction Program. It has been granted categorical exemptions under CEQA Guidelines Sections 15301 and 15302, as the work constitutes a like-for-like replacement of existing facilities. Performance is expected to take approximately eight weeks per field, with work hours generally scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays. Materials are to be acquired through a cooperative purchasing agreement, and the project will be executed on an as-needed basis, starting with the Foothill College football field.
