With a total funding pool of at least $21.5 million, grants range from $50,000 to $2 million for implementation initiatives such as reducing vehicle miles traveled, decreasing food waste, cutting hydrofluorocarbon emissions, enhancing natural resilience through ecological restoration, and improving flood risk management through infrastructure retrofits or relocations. Additionally, up to $1 million is allocated for planning, inventory, and assessment activities aligned with Climate Smart Communities certification actions, with grants between $10,000 and $200,000 available for these purposes. Eligible applicants include any county, city, town, or village in New York, regardless of their current certification status. Applicants must submit their proposals via the New York State Consolidated Funding Application portal by July 31, 2023, with no submissions accepted after this deadline. The program emphasizes equitable participation, aiming for 30% MWBE involvement and a 6% contracting goal for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. The grant term extends for five years, and applicants are encouraged to review the full Request for Applications for detailed guidance. Questions can be directed to the Office of Climate Change at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, with additional information available online.
