The Ames-Consolidated IT Services (A-CITS) contract represents the recompetition of the previous Federal Information Processing Services (FIPS) contract, specifically tailored to meet the needs of NASA Ames Research Center. After evaluating various contracting vehicles, including a Full & Open Competition approach and Government Wide Agency Contract (GWAC) options, NASA Ames selected the Department of Transportation’s Information Technology Omnibus Procurement (ITOP) as the optimal vehicle for this procurement. The decision was based on a thorough analysis to ensure the chosen vehicle aligns with the Center’s technical and administrative requirements. This new contract approach emphasizes consolidation and efficiency in IT service provision at NASA Ames, reflecting a strategic move to leverage existing government-wide contract vehicles rather than launching an independent open competition. Although specific details such as NAICS codes, set-aside types, or place of performance have not been disclosed, the use of the ITOP vehicle suggests an intention to streamline contracting processes and achieve cost-effective IT solutions for the Center. The solicitation number for this opportunity is NASA-SNOTE-020516-001, posted on May 16, 2002.
