Deficiency: The Samsung unit is constantly leaking. Mini splits have already replaced most of the spaces where the Samsung unit needs to cool. Scope: B730 currently utilizes a Samsung variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air conditioning system that has been plagued by frequent refrigerant leaks and mechanical failures, rendering it unreliable and ineffective in Djibouti’s extreme climate. This project proposes to decommission and remove the failing VRF system and replace it with standalone Daikin mini-split units. The Daikin units offer simplified maintenance, independent zone control, and improved reliability, making them better suited for long-term use at Camp Lemonnier. The replacement effort will include electrical modifications and condensate drainage improvements where needed. Impact: Minimal impact towards command or mission. Continued maintenance on a failing system is a waste of resources.
