The purpose of the project is to repair erosion
at three sites along the west bank of Marsh Creek between Delta Road and Sunset Road in the Brentwood area
that were damaged during the 2023 winter storm events. The approximate size of the bank failure at each
location is: Site 1 is approximately 20 feet by 39 feet and located approximately 3,300 feet upstream from Delta
Road; Site 2 is approximately 15 feet by 42 feet and located approximately 1,800 feet upstream from Delta
Road; and Site 3 is approximately 18 feet by 27 feet and located approximately 1,580 feet upstream from Delta
Road.
At each site, the repair will consist of removing the eroded bank material and backfilling with soil-filled rock slope
protection. The bank will be regraded to conform to the adjacent channel slopes. Native topsoil will be placed
over the bank and vegetated using a native seed mix. A temporary water diversion system will be used to
dewater the work areas as needed. Excavation depths will vary; the maximum depth of excavation will be
approximately 5 feet. Additional grading will be needed at Sites 2 and 3 to reestablish the drainage ditch along
the western edge of the maintenance road.
Utility relocations and Real Estate transactions, including temporary construction easements, may be necessary
in support of the project. Temporary traffic control will be required. Repairs to the adjacent maintenance road
may be necessary. Marsh Creek Regional Trail may be temporarily impacted during construction. Construction
is anticipated to occur in 2026. Work will take place during the dry season and is anticipated to be completed in
approximately 40 working days. Appropriate best management practices for erosion control and water pollution
control will be implemented to protect the creek. Vegetation removal will be necessary to accommodate the
project. The project is in the East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and will comply with
HCP requirements. Applicable regulatory permits will be obtained before construction.
