Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit Project

The Los Angeles Aerial Rapid Transit Project, managed by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, involves the development of a 1.2-mile aerial gondola system connecting Los Angeles Union Station to the Dodger Stadium property. The route travels along Alameda Street, Spring Street, and Bishops Road, featuring an intermediate station at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. The system will include aerial cables, passenger stations, a non-passenger junction, support towers, and gondola cabins, with a maximum capacity of 5,000 people per hour per direction and an estimated travel time of seven minutes. The project aims to provide a zero-emission, high-capacity transit solution to reduce vehicular congestion and greenhouse gas emissions while providing pedestrian and landscape improvements at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. The project has undergone extensive environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act, culminating in a Notice of Determination on December 8, 2025. This process included a Supplemental Environmental Impact Report to address court-ordered requirements regarding temporary construction noise mitigation and the feasibility of building retrofits. Key compliance mandates include adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act for all cabins and stations, the implementation of an archaeological testing and data recovery plan for the Los Angeles State Historic Park, and strict hazardous materials abatement standards at the 1201 North Broadway site. Additionally, the project commits to a 35 percent utilization goal for minority, women, disadvantaged, and small business enterprises and requires that all construction workers be paid prevailing wages.
