NOTICE OF INTENT TO INCREASE THE CEILING OF N66001-15-C-4030

This is a Notice of Intent to Increase the Ceiling of Contract N66001-15-C-4030 awarded on behalf of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Defense Sciences Office (DARPA DSO) on 29 April 2015 for a performance period of fifteen (15) months, with two 12-month option periods. The effort under the contract is in support of the DARPA DSO Program, Simplifying Complexity in Scientific Discovery (SIMPLEX) and involves development and demonstration of a data-driven material model for complex heterogeneous materials at each spatial scale along with a translation method between this model and corresponding material structures. Under this additional effort for option year 2, the contractor shall build upon the work currently completed during the base period and option 1 of the contract to explore the space of abstract representations provided by a given neural network. While we use optimization as a means to understand external behaviors of the network-based features, and demonstrate that the optimization procedure is immaterial and not a focus of the research goals. The NAICS code for this procurement is 541712 Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Biotechnology). Due to the nature of Research and Development efforts, DARPA DSO could not have reasonably estimated the results and/or need for additional research under this program. This action includes a ceiling increase of approximately $113,347.
