Pier D Street Geotechnical Exploratory Work - Harbor Development Permit No. 23-048(1)

The Port of Long Beach has authorized the third amendment to Harbor Development Permit No. 23-048(3) for the Pier D Street Realignment Project located in Long Beach, California. This project involves a comprehensive overhaul of the roadway and surrounding infrastructure, including the realignment and widening of the street, redesigned curves, new energy-efficient lighting, upgraded signage, and the creation of two new cul-de-sacs. A key component of the roadway work is the installation of a new signalized intersection at the junction of Pier D Street and Pico Avenue. The scope of work extends to critical infrastructure and environmental improvements, including the replacement of the stormwater pump station and outfall system, the installation of a new storm drain network featuring bio-filtration and hydrodynamic separators, and the rehabilitation of the sanitary sewer lift station. Additionally, the project includes upgrades to water infrastructure, fire hydrants, power poles, and the fiber optic network. Landscaping and irrigation efforts will be implemented in accordance with the State's Model Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance, and environmental characterization will be conducted through approximately 53 soil borings. A spending authorization of 1,500,000 dollars has been allocated to continue preliminary design work. The project is classified as exempt under various California Environmental Quality Act categorical exemptions, meaning no further environmental review is required.
