AI Contract Overview

The Naval Air Systems Command plans to negotiate a modification to an existing contract with McDonnell Douglas Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing, to continue providing Sustaining Engineering and Configuration Management services for the AV-8B aircraft. This modification will extend the contract's period of performance by two additional years. The services are critical due to the need for detailed design, engineering, and proprietary data, all of which McDonnell Douglas exclusively possesses as the sole designer, developer, and manufacturer of the AV-8B aircraft. The modification will be awarded on a sole source basis under statutory authority that permits other than full and open competition, specifically Title 10, U.S.C. Section 2304 (c)(1), implemented through FAR 6.302-1, as only one responsible source can provide these specialized services. This action ensures continuity in support for the AV-8B platform, vital to maintaining its operational readiness. The Government has indicated that this information is provided for awareness purposes only.
