Reading Specialist

The Punxsutawney Area School District is soliciting proposals for a Reading Specialist to provide services for the remainder of the 2026-2027 school year or until a permanent employee is hired. The selected specialist will work 7.5 hours per day, collaborating with instructional staff to improve student literacy through direct instruction, targeted interventions, and the implementation of evidence-based practices aligned with Pennsylvania Academic Standards. Key responsibilities include administering literacy assessments, monitoring student progress, coaching teachers in differentiation strategies, and participating in student support meetings such as IEP, Section 504, GIEP, and MTSS. The contract will be awarded to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. Applicants must submit a sealed physical bid packet by October 13, 2026, including a non-collusion affidavit, a statement of qualifications with five successful project references, and the completed bid form. Compliance requirements include adherence to the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission regulations, federal and state wage rates, and mandatory background checks under Act 24 and Act 82. Final payment is contingent upon a mutual walk-through inspection and approval by the Board of School Directors. For contracts exceeding 100,000 dollars, additional requirements include the Byrd Anti-Lobbying Amendment certification and adherence to the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act.
