The Rosamond South Solar Project, managed by Golden Fields Solar IV, LLC in Kern County, California, involves the construction and operation of photovoltaic solar facilities on approximately 1,302 acres of private land. The project is designed to generate up to 165 MW-AC of renewable energy and includes energy storage capacity of up to 245 MW or 980 MWh. Due to the project's footprint, the incidental take of 1,354 western Joshua trees is authorized under the WJTCA and the California Endangered Species Act. This number has been refined through four separate amendments to the Incidental Take Permit issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, with the most recent updates adjusting the total count of impacted trees and extending the deadline for the recordation of a conservation easement.

Full Description

The Project includes the construction and operation of photovoltaic (PV) solar facilities and associated infrastructure necessary to generate up to 165 megawatt (MW) alternating current (MW-AC) of renewable energy, including up to 245 MW (or 980 megawatt hours (MWh)) of energy storage, on approximately 1,302 acres of privately-owned land. The Project will result in incidental take of 1,354 western Joshua trees (WJT, Yucca brevifola), which are protected under the WJTCA and the California Endangered Species Act. The WJTCA ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of WJT that may occur as a result of Project implementation. Amendment No. 1 revised the number of impacted WJT from 1,346 to 1,347 adding one additional live Class B WJT. Amendment No. 2 revised the number of impacted WJT from 1,347 to 1,371 trees. Amendment No. 3 authorized take of an additional 229 WJT and removes take authorization for 246 WJT, further revising the number of impacted WJT from 1,371 to 1,354. Amendment No.4 amends the WJT Preservation Condition of Approval and extends the deadline for recordation of the conservation easement.
