San Luis Obispo Creek at San Luis Bay Drive near Avila Beach Stream Gage Project No. 455R277613/ ED No. 26-0081

The California Department of Water Resources has contracted with the San Luis Obispo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District to install a stream gage on San Luis Obispo Creek at San Luis Bay Drive in Avila Beach as part of the California Stream Gage Improvement Program. The project involves installing a radar stage sensor and wire-weight reference gage on the bridge railing to avoid modifying the bridge structure, along with a pressure transducer and water temperature sensor in the stream channel downstream. These components will connect via conduit along existing rock slope protection to an enclosure cabinet located outside the channel housing the data logger and radio equipment. The installation will utilize drive pins and rock anchors for equipment security, with all in-channel work restricted to hand tools to minimize environmental impact. The project includes minor vegetation trimming but prohibits tree removal or alterations to the streambed and bank. This initiative is classified as a forecast under NAICS code 237990 and is exempt from CEQA under categorical exemptions 15304 for minor alterations to land and 15306 for information collection.
