Shallow Well Drilling and Water Conservation Project

The Turner Island Water District is implementing the Shallow Well Drilling and Water Conservation Project, authorized under Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-MER-64906-R4 and Fish and Game Code section 1602. The project is located at three sites within and adjacent to Mariposa Slough in Merced County, California, approximately 12 miles southwest of the City of Merced. The primary objective is to support future groundwater recharge by diverting water to a proposed adjacent recharge basin. The scope of work includes the construction and operation of a new pre-cast reinforced concrete turnout structure and an outlet structure, along with the replacement of two existing weirs within Mariposa Slough. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued a Notice of Determination stating that the project will not have a significant environmental effect within its jurisdiction, based on a Mitigated Negative Declaration. The project adheres to the California Code of Regulations section 15096 and Public Resources Code section 21108, incorporating specific mitigation measures and a Monitoring Reporting or Monitoring Plan.
