South Tahoe Greenway Shared-Use Trail (Greenway) Project Modifications

The California Tahoe Conservancy is implementing modifications to the Dennis T. Machida Memorial Greenway, specifically focusing on the northern 1/3 mile of Phase 3 known as the Greenway-Van Sickle Connector in South Lake Tahoe. This project, identified by solicitation number 2006112070, involves refining the trail alignment between Chonokis Road and the Greenway terminus, adjusting boardwalk widths and footings, and substituting mitigation measure CUL-1. These changes are designed to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and are intended to be constructed concurrently with the Van Sickle Bi-State Park Safety and Equitable Access Improvements Project to maximize efficiency. The project is governed by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), with a Notice of Determination issued on June 18, 2026, stating that the project will not have a significant environmental impact. Compliance is managed through a Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Plan that includes protections for raptor and migratory bird nests, sensitive plants, and wildlife. Additionally, the project adheres to TRPA Code section 61.3.7 for old growth protection and requires archaeological monitoring during ground-disturbing activities to protect historical and tribal cultural resources.
