CG Dwg 225B-WLB 233-001 shows the MDE installa?on onboard the vessel. Atached Figure 1, - Photos of Current MDE mounts illustrate the installed mounts. 3.2.2 The concerned work area is the Main Machinery Room (4-66-0-E). 3.2.3 The MDE mounts are manufactured by Chris?e-Grey and are supplied Government Furnished. 3.3 Removing Exis?ng TSC T2 Mounts. The Contractor shall accomplish the following tasks. 3.3.1 The installed shipyard jacking brackets provide for ver?cal jacking screws to be used at each corner for the ver?cal posi?on/alignment of the engine. These shipyard jacking brackets may be seen in Figure 1, - Photos of Current MDE mounts. The contractor shall provide new jacking screws, with the ends - domed to help prevent engine from walking side to side. 3.3.2 In addi?on to ver?cal jacking, temporary horizontal screw jacks shall be required in both the longitudinal and transverse direc?ons at all four corners of the engine to provide adjustment in the longitudinal and transverse direc?ons, and rota?on about the ver?cal axis for the alignment process. In some case the horizontal screw jack posi?ons may already be in place, as evidenced by atached photos. If not Contractor shall install in similar fashion as those depicted in atached photos. In all cases the contractor shall provide new jacking screws with ends - domed. 3.3.3 With engine supported by jacking screws, one by one at each engine mount, depress the mounts very slightly using jacking screws inserted into the top to remove the sloted commissioning plates. A?er the commissioning plates are removed, along with any other shims, the mounts can be allowed to expand and then be unbolted and removed. 3.3.3.1 Remove the exis?ng shim packets from each of the engine mounts. Clean, measure, and record the shims at each loca?on. Keep the shims which were removed from each engine mount separated. 3.3.3.2 Using precision measuring tools, determine the quan?ty and type of shims installed above each mount between the engine support bracket and the top of the mount. There should be two commissioning plates, one 10-millimeter and one 5-millimeter. In addi?on, there may be addi?onal shims added to compensate for setlement and facilitate engine alignment over the life of the mount. The 5- and 10- millimeter commissioning plates should be retained for reuse with the new mounts. If these plates are missing, then new plates must be fabricated prior to the installa?on of the new mounts in addi?on to four addi?onal sets of commissioning plates for the new mounts. 3.3.3.2 For each mount, remove (and retain) the upper atachment bolt. 3.3.4 Install new GFE mounts, the original shims from previous new mount alignment should be reused. If the MDEs were previously re-shimmed at the mount's half life (4-5 yrs) to offset setling, the alignment may now be high with fresh mounts installed. 3.3.4.1 The mounts are installed in specific orienta?on and loca?ons. As atached figure illustrates the two TSC T2 40/60 mounts are installed closest to Vulkan coupling (on each side of MDE). 3.4 Engine Alignment Check. 3.4.1 Disconnect engine guards and disconnect the Vulkan coupling from the engine and reduc?on gear. 3.4.2 The following work shall be completed a?er the cuter is afloat with normal opera?ng levels of fuel, water and ballast. 3.4.3 The following work shall accomplished under supervision of Alignment Tech Rep. 3.4.4 At this point the engine pre-heaters should be turned on and the engine brought up to temperature, a process that will take approximately six hours. This will allow all thermal expansion of the engine to take place. With the engine up to temperature, the alignment can be rechecked. 3.4.5 Measure the engine alignment again in the presence of the COTR. The following tolerances apply for radial(rim) and for angular(face) displacement: +/- 0.020". Total Indicator readings (TIR) would be twice the value. Note the engine is inten?onally offset 0.032 to Port per drawing for engine torque effects. In addi?on addi?onal offsets have been factored in to allow for outboard expansion of Reduc?on Gear's input flange due to increased temperatures at normal opera?ng condi?ons (HOT) vs. ambient condi?ons found during alignment (COLD). See following Table to re-enforce alignment criteria. PORT MDE ALIGNEMNT CRITERIA ACCEPTABLE RANGE OF RADIAL ALIGNMENT (RIM DISPLACEMENT) ACCEPTABLE ANGULAR ALIGNMENT (FACE DISPLACEMENT) Ver?cal displacement Horiz displacement (includes Red Gear expansion outboard due to 60F degree temp delta HOTCOLD) Ver?cal displacement Horiz displacement 0.020 engine high to 0.020 engine low 0.070 engine to port to 0.030 engine to port 0.020 or less 0.020 or less STARBOARD MDE ALIGNEMNT CRITERIA ACCEPTABLE RANGE OF RADIAL ALIGNMENT (RIM DISPLACEMENT) ACCEPTABLE ANGULAR ALIGNMENT (FACE DISPLACEMENT) Ver?cal displacement Horiz displacement (includes Red Gear expansion outboard due to 60F degree temp delta HOT-COLD) Ver?cal displacement Horiz displacement 0.020 engine high to 0.020 engine low 0.034 engine to port to 0.006 engine to STBD 0.020 or less 0.020 or less 3.4.6 Ensure jacking screws are all removed or withdrawn, then record the engine alignment readings. 3.4.7 Measure and record the height of each vibra?on mount following instruc?ons of Chris?e & Grey Data Sheet DS 094 (atached). Insure they are within compliance of Chris?e & Grey Data Sheet DS 096 (atached). Provide copy of post transfer mount heights to Chris?e & Grey. The heights are expected to be roughly equal at each isolator ensuring they are all carrying equal load. Flange face alignments may be excellent at same ?me an interior mount was completely unloaded. Record the data in a copy of the atached data sheet (found as enclosure at end of specifica?on) for each MDE. Measurements will be witnessed by the COTR. 3.5 Determining Addi?onal Shim Thickness (ver?cal adjustments) and Engine Movements (Horizontal adjustments). 3.5.1 Based on mount heights and alignment readings, determine required addi?onal shims that are required for each mount to obtain final alignment mee?ng both alignment criteria in above table as well as uniform mount heights (Chris?e & Grey Data Sheet DS 096). Any unused shims shall be returned to USCG Inspector for future efforts. 3.5.2 Install calculated shims. 3.5.3 Determine any horizontal movements required to meet alignment criteria. Loosen mounts, and use jacking screws and/or other approved techniques to execute engine movements. 3.5.4 Ensure jacking screws are all removed or withdrawn, then repeat alignment measurements and mount height readings. 3.5.5 Repeat shimming and movements, followed by addi?onal readings, un?l alignment criteria is finally met. 3.5.6 Submit final report to COTR via CFR with final alignment results, recommenda?ons for future similar jobs, difficul?es, and any other notable findings. 3.5.7 Reassemble the engine components e.g. coupling, coupling guards.
