Above Henderson Park Habitat Rehabilitation Project

The Above Henderson Park Habitat Rehabilitation Project, managed by the Merced Irrigation District and the State Water Resources Control Board, focuses on restoring the Merced River near Snelling in Merced County. The project involves significant earthwork, including the removal of approximately 74,200 cubic yards of material and the placement of 33,400 cubic yards of sorted earthen material and 13,700 cubic yards of unsorted earthen fill. These activities are designed to create a mosaic of habitat units, specifically riffles, pools, and gravel bars, to improve the local ecosystem. The California State Lands Commission has approved a six-year General Lease for Public Agency Use, extending through August 21, 2031. All work must comply with the Environmental Impact Report and the Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Program certified by the State Water Resources Control Board. The project is located on sovereign land in the Merced River, adjacent to several specific assessor's parcel numbers, and has been determined to have no significant environmental effect.
