System Protection at Kohler and Sonoma Creek Crossings (Lake or Streambed Alteration Agreement No. EPIMS-SON-50608-R3)

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has approved Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-SON-50608-R3 for the Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District to implement permanent repairs along Kohler and Sonoma Creeks to safeguard sanitary sewer pipelines crossing these waterways. The work involves the use of natural and engineered riparian stabilization methods including rock slope protection, fabric-reinforced fill structures with biodegradable materials, log rootwad revetments, brush mattresses, and native vegetation replanting, along with the placement of large boulders to armor the pipeline where it crosses Sonoma Creek. The project includes a mitigation plan to offset habitat impacts, specifically addressing 20 linear feet of permanent and 290 linear feet of temporary impact to open water habitat, as well as 305 linear feet of temporary riparian impact, which includes 210 linear feet of sensitive habitat for the endangered California freshwater shrimp.
