The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking innovative research proposals under the Area-Multiplied Photonic-crystal Enhanced Devices (AMPED) program. The objective of this program is to develop single-mode, diffraction-limited, continuous-wave lasers on a chip-scale platform that deliver significantly higher output power than current single-mode photonic-crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL) devices. This effort aims to achieve a leap in performance, improving efficiency and power output by orders of magnitude compared to existing technologies. The solicitation, identified as DARPA-PS-26-119, was posted on May 11, 2026, with responses due by July 9, 2026. It includes a Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) Addendum providing essential technical details necessary for potential proposers, accessible via instructions in Attachment A of the solicitation package. The program falls under NAICS code 541715, focusing on research and development services. The DARPA office responsible is located in Arlington, Virginia, and interested parties can contact the AMPED PS Coordinator via the provided email for inquiries or clarifications.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting innovative research proposals for the Area-Multiplied Photonic-crystal Enhanced Devices (AMPED) program. The goal of AMPED is to demonstrate single-mode, diffraction-limited, continuous-wave (CW), highly efficient laser devices capable of unprecedented output power in a chip-scale form factor. This represents orders-of-magnitude improvement over the current state of the art in single-mode photonic-crystal surface-emitting laser (PCSEL) devices. This solicitation includes a controlled unclassified information (CUI) Addendum that contains key technical details relevant to the program goals and objectives.
Please see Attachment A of this PS for instructions on how to request the CUI Addendum.
