Central Park Block Project

The proposed project is to expand and renovate the existing Central Park located within the 6.42-acre Central Park Block (CPB) which is a multi-use civic and recreational area owned by the City of Glendale and includes Central Park, which is the city’s primary down-town public park, the Adult Recreation Center, the Central Library, and the Armenian-American Museum (AAM). The proposed CPB Project would expand the park from 0.78 acres to 2.71 acres with the vertical APE extending to 20 feet above ground and 11 feet below ground surface and includes the installation of a splash pad with a recycled water system and underground tank, and a restroom building, and the construction of a covered amphitheater structure with a stage. In addition, the project will include the removal of driveways and parking areas, the removal of an obsolete HVAC bunker, and the creation of several plazas and improved entries, as well as the creation of a great lawn space and introduction of landscaping. The project plans to construct a large landing for the Central Library Building’s south entrance that will include a ramp and stairs, and according to Assessment of Effects analysis letter report by the City of Glendale is designed to meet the Secretary of Interior’s Rehabilitation Standard and would not affect the historic property to a level that would be adverse.
