The City of Santa Maria (City) proposes to expand and update its existing WWTP to accommodate anticipated growth, provide long-term reliable treatment, and adhere to applicable regulatory requirements, including the updated effluent discharge limits. The project would modify the existing WWTP currently owned and operated by the City at 601 Black Road, Santa Maria, California 93458, and expand onto adjacent land to the east and southeast. The City, in coordination with Carollo Engineers, prepared a Wastewater Treatment Plant Master Plan to provide a 35-year road map for the Citys wastewater treatment, disposal, and reuse needs. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Master Plan updates, replaces, and expands on the existing 1993 Master Plan. As identified in the Wastewater Treatment Plant Master Plan, the proposed project would include three components: (1) near-term projects that must be completed prior to the initiation of Phase 1; (2) Phase 1 Improvements; and (3) Phase 2 Improvements. With implementation of the Phase 1 Improvements, the City anticipates that an additional 11 full-time employees would be needed, for a total of 25 dedicated WWTP and collections staff. The WWTP would continue to operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
