Full Description

The Office of Field Operations is pursuing a Digital Twin Proof of Concept (PoC) with the aim of enhancing planning for OFO NII technology, biometric capabilities, and other large scale technology deployments at CBP facilities. The effort will help CBP address challenges associated with deploying the technology to space constrained and aging facilities. The Digital Twin capability will create high-fidelity, three-dimensional virtual representations of the facilities using advanced imaging and modeling methods. These models will allow CBP to evaluate potential technology placement, infrastructure constraints, traffic flow impacts, and installation scenarios in a virtual environment before committing to physical construction or equipment deployment.
By using a digital twin, CBP will be able to visualize current site conditions, test multiple scanner and camera placement options, evaluate operational impacts, and identify potential conflicts earlier in the planning process. The simulation findings are expected to help CBP develop more accurate cost and schedule estimates for future technology deployments while also mitigating risk for potential future cost overruns. The POC will be conducted at up to 10 ports of entry and two U.S. Border Patrol checkpoints.
