AI Contract Overview
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites grant applications under this funding opportunity to support the development of innovative technologies aimed at analyzing, targeting, probing, handling, or quality controlling biospecimens used in cancer research or clinical care. This initiative focuses on early-stage projects that propose proof-of-concept or pilot studies to assess the feasibility of new methods, tools, assays, platforms, or instruments. Projects should demonstrate significant technical innovation and have the potential to accelerate or enhance cancer biology research, early detection and screening, clinical diagnosis, treatment, cancer control, epidemiology, or address cancer health disparities. While the technologies may be broadly applicable, proposals must concentrate specifically on cancer-related applications. The funding opportunity is administered by the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services and is part of the broader Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) Program sponsored by the NCI. Clinical trials are not allowed under this grant mechanism, which emphasizes exploratory, early-stage development activities. Interested applicants can contact Dr. Kelly Crotty for further information. The program’s goal is to foster pioneering technological advancements that could ultimately improve basic and clinical cancer research, thereby contributing to better outcomes in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

Full Description
Through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) solicits grant applications proposing to develop innovative technologies for analyzing, targeting, probing, handling, or quality control of biospecimens used in cancer research or clinical care. The emphasis of this NOFO is on early-stage projects proposing proof-of-concept/pilot studies to test the feasibility of the proposed method, tool, assay, platform, or instrument. Well-suited applications must offer a high degree of technical innovation and the potential to accelerate and/or enhance research in the areas of cancer biology, early detection and screening, clinical diagnosis, treatment, cancer control, epidemiology, and/or address issues associated with cancer health disparities. Technologies proposed for development may have potential for widespread applicability but must be focused in this proposal on cancer applications. This funding opportunity is part of a broader NCI-sponsored Innovative Molecular Analysis Technologies (IMAT) Program.
