AI Contract Overview
The NIH Common Fund, in partnership with multiple NIH Institutes and Centers, is forecasting the upcoming release of a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the RNomics program, specifically targeting the establishment of RNomics Technology Enhancement Centers (RTECs). These centers will focus on advancing existing RNA-related technologies with proven feasibility to enable integrated, high-resolution analysis of the full RNA landscape—spanning sequences, modifications, structures, locations, interactions, and functions—across diverse cell and tissue types. The goal is to develop robust, community-accessible tools for end-to-end RNA sequencing, precise quantitative mapping of RNA modifications, and comprehensive profiling of RNA dynamics and function, along with novel molecular and biochemical methods for manipulating and functionally testing RNA. RTECs are expected to enhance both experimental and computational platforms, driving measurable improvements in RNA measurement and analysis capabilities that benefit the broader scientific community. The initiative emphasizes scalability, reproducibility, and widespread usability, ensuring that new technologies are not only innovative but also practical for adoption across research settings. Although applications are not currently being accepted, this forecast provides potential applicants with advance notice to build collaborative partnerships and refine competitive proposals. The NIH Common Fund remains the administrative lead, with inquiries directed to cfrnomics@od.nih.gov, and the formal NOFO is anticipated to be posted in August 2026.

Full Description
The NIH Common Fund, in partnership with other NIH Institutes and Centers, plans to issue Notices of Funding Opportunity (NOFOs) for the RNomics program, which seeks to develop tools for studying the full set of RNA molecules (the RNome) in cells and tissues. The program will support technologies and resources that enable integrated analysis of RNA sequences, modifications, structures, locations, interactions, and functions to advance understanding of health and disease. RNomics includes four initiatives: technology enhancement centers, transformative technologies, molecular standards, and a coordinating center. Applications are not being solicited at this time. This notice is being provided to give potential applicants time to develop meaningful collaborations and strong projects.
This NOFO will establish collaborative RNomics Technology Enhancement Centers (RTECs). RTECs will further develop existing technologies with demonstrated feasibility. These centers will strengthen experimental and computational tools for measuring, mapping, and testing RNA in cells and tissues, with the goal of delivering measurable improvements and supporting broad community use. Priority areas include end-to-end RNA sequencing and quantitative modification mapping; comprehensive analysis of RNA sequence, structure, modification, interactions, localization, dynamics, and function; and molecular and biochemical tools for RNA manipulation, processing, and functional testing.
