RNomics Molecular Standards

The NIH Common Fund, in collaboration with multiple NIH Institutes and Centers, is preparing to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity for the RNomics Molecular Standards initiative under the broader RNomics program, which aims to advance the study of the complete RNA landscape in biological systems. This specific effort will focus on developing, testing, refining, and distributing molecular reference standards for RNA molecules, particularly those containing modified nucleosides and modified oligonucleotides, to ensure consistent, reproducible, and comparable measurements across diverse laboratories and technologies. The program will produce initial and expanded releases of these standards alongside guidance on their optimal selection and application, with plans to secure their long-term availability beyond the grant period to benefit the wider scientific community. These molecular standards are designed to serve as benchmarks for evaluating RNA sequencing, modification detection, and functional analysis tools, thereby enhancing data reliability and interoperability in RNA research.
