AI Contract Overview
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is announcing a forthcoming Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) Community Sites, which are networks of community hospitals and oncology practices focused on enrolling participants in clinical trials related to cancer control, prevention, treatment, and care delivery. These Community Sites, which may or may not be formally linked within healthcare systems, are prohibited from conducting clinical trials under this award (UG1 Clinical Trials Not Allowed) but play a crucial role in accruing patients for these studies. Sites are expected to achieve an annual target of at least 70 new unique patient accruals, balanced across categories such as cancer control, prevention, screening/post-treatment surveillance, treatment, and imaging trials. Participation in cancer care delivery studies is optional, but if pursued, sites must maintain at least three active cancer care delivery protocols each year. Community Sites collaborate directly with NCORP Research Bases by contributing clinical relevance during study concept development, identifying local healthcare disparities suitable for research, and offering practical feedback on study feasibility. This NOFO solicitation supports NCI's goal to strengthen the inclusion of diverse community settings in clinical research, thereby enhancing the generalizability and dissemination of cancer clinical trial results. The funding opportunity is managed by the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, with contact points available for further inquiries.

Full Description
This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is one of three NOFOs for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP). NCORP is designed to enhance generalizability and dissemination of clinical trial results through accrual in a variety of community settings. The purpose of NCORP is to engage cancer patient populations, those at risk of cancer, and organizations in rigorous studies focused on cancer control, prevention, treatment and care delivery.
NCORP will support the following components that will be individually awarded through the respective RFAs indicated below:
- NCORP Research Bases (UG1 Clinical Trials Required);
- NCORP Community Sites (UG1 Clinical Trials Not Allowed); and
- NCORP Academic Community Sites (UG1 Clinical Trials Not Allowed)
NCORP Community Sites are consortia of community hospitals and/or oncology practices, which may or may not be formally affiliated in a healthcare system, that accrues participants to cancer control, prevention, treatment and care delivery clinical trials and other human subjects research.
NCORP Community Sites are expected to meet or exceed the required annual 70 new unique patient/participant accruals evenly distributed between cancer control, prevention, and screening/post-treatment surveillance trials, and treatment and imaging trials, respectively. Participation in cancer care delivery studies will be optional. For those who propose cancer care delivery participation, NCORP Community Sites must meet or exceed the required minimum of 3 cancer care delivery protocols open per year. NCORP Community Sites interact with the NCORP Research Bases by: 1) providing insight into clinical significance during concept development; 2) identifying care disparities in their local populations that could be studied; and 3) providing input on feasibility during protocol development.
