Schauer Pond Outlet Spillway Project (Notification of Lake or Streambed Alteration, No. EPIMS-MEN-51960-R1C)

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement EPIMS-MEN-51960-R1C with Terry Schauer, pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code. Located in the Big River watershed in Mendocino County, California, the Schauer Pond Outlet Spillway Project is limited to one encroachment. The scope of work involves the removal of an existing spillway culvert and outlet chute from an on-stream pond and the installation of a new, appropriately sized culvert and downspout. The new installation must align with the outlet stream channel, discharge past the toe of the pond embankment, and create two feet of freeboard in the pond. To address ongoing erosion, the project requires the outlet stream channel and banks to be armored with appropriately sized riprap rock. Construction activities include excavation, culvert replacement, backfilling, compaction of fill, and rock armoring. All work must be completed according to the notification submitted on August 15, 2025. The project has been granted a Notice of Exemption based on categorical exemptions for minor alterations with no significant environmental impact. Administration of the project is managed by John Herrera, Senior Environmental Scientist Specialist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
