The National Cancer Institute plans to release a Notice of Funding Opportunity to support the ongoing development and maintenance of informatics research resources crucial to advancing cancer research. This initiative targets existing, widely-used informatics tools that enhance data acquisition, management, analysis, and dissemination across various aspects of cancer research, including biology, treatment, early detection, risk assessment, prevention, epidemiology, and health disparities. As part of the Informatics Technology for Cancer Research Program, this funding will emphasize sustaining operations and ensuring these resources remain scientifically relevant, distinct from early-stage development efforts funded separately. Applicants are expected to demonstrate the significant impact their technology has had on cancer research and present a clear plan for its continued advancement. Proposals must incorporate robust strategies for supporting end users through training, documentation, and outreach, alongside mechanisms to engage the research community actively to address evolving needs. Although applications are not being accepted at this time, this announcement is intended to give potential applicants adequate preparation time to develop collaborations and responsive projects. The funding opportunity will use the U24 activity code and encourages expertise in cancer informatics to apply when it becomes available.

Full Description

The National Cancer Institute intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the continued development and sustainment of high value informatics research resources to improve the acquisition, management, analysis, and dissemination of data and knowledge across the cancer research continuum including cancer biology, cancer treatment and diagnosis, early cancer detection, risk assessment and prevention, cancer control and epidemiology, and/or cancer health disparities. As a component of the NCI's Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) Program, this NOFO will focus on sustaining operations and maintaining and evolving the scientific relevance of existing, widely-adopted informatics tools and resources. This is in contrast to early-stage and advanced development efforts to generate these tools and resources that will be supported by companion ITCR NOFOs. The central mission of ITCR is to promote research-driven informatics technology across the development lifecycle to address priority needs in cancer research. In order to be successful, the application must provide clear justification for why the research resource should be maintained and how it has benefited and will continue to benefit the cancer research field. In addition, mechanisms for assessing and maximizing the value of the resource to researchers and supporting close engagement between the resource and the targeted research community should be described.

This NOFO invites applications to support the sustained operations of informatics technology resources that support a wide range of cancer research, including discovery biology, population studies, as well as clinical and translational research. The emphasis will be on sustaining resources that have had a demonstrated impact on cancer research. In addition, all projects proposed in response to this NOFO must involve the following general attributes:

  • Evidence that the technology has had significant impact on cancer research to date and the sustainment plan will lead to the continued advancement of cancer research
  • Robust plans for supporting the end-user community including documentation, training, and other outreach activities
  • Clear processes for engaging end users to address emerging needs of the targeted research communities to ensure that the research resource maintains relevance to the research it supports

Applications are not being solicited at this time. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. This NOFO will utilize the U24 activity code. Investigators with expertise and insights into cancer informatics are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this NOFO.

Mission Enabling Services Contract (MESC) IIThe Mission Enabling Services Contract II (MESC II) is a three-part contracting vehicle designed to support the Johnson Space Center’s Flight Operations Directorate and its affiliated organizations with specialized mission-enabling applications and services. It includes two single-award baselines—NAMIS Services and Spaceflight Enabling Services—that address known, ongoing government requirements independent of any task orders. These baselines ensure continuous support for critical flight-related functions. Alongside the baselines, the contract features a multiple-award Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) component that accommodates new and evolving tasks not already covered by the baselines, allowing for flexible acquisition of innovative or unforeseen mission support capabilities across a broad scope of work. MESC II enables the development, sustainment, and maintenance of highly specialized systems and services essential to NASA’s flight operations, serving not only internal JSC needs but also external partners including other NASA centers, international space agencies, other government entities, and commercial collaborators. The contract is managed under NAICS code 541512 and is forecasted for release on July 1, 2027, with primary performance occurring in Houston, Texas. Point of contact for program inquiries is Erin E. Moeller, and the Small Business Specialist is Tumarrow Romain, ensuring accessibility for small business engagement. The contract does not specify a set-aside type and is issued under the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
