Interstate 10 Minor Pavement Rehabilitation Project

The California Department of Transportation, District 8, is planning a pavement rehabilitation project along Interstate 10 between Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and Thousand Palms in Riverside County to extend the service life of the roadway. This includes cold planing the existing pavement and overlaying it with Rubberized Asphalt Concrete—Gap graded (RHMA-G) on the mainline, ramps, and shoulders. Additional improvements involve replacing shoulder rumble strips, upgrading culverts, replacing outdated guardrails with the Midwest Guardrail System, modernizing ADA curb ramps, enhancing transportation management and ramp metering systems, and installing high-visibility striping at crosswalks for improved night safety. Class II bike lanes will be marked with green conflict paint, and a flashing beacon will be added to support pedestrian and bicycle safety. Rock blankets will be installed along the roadside to enhance safety, while stormwater management includes trash capture devices. Erosion control measures consist of twelve check dams, six sediment basins, Rock Slope Protection at two sites, and a concrete apron at one location. Landscape restoration includes removing dead trees, replanting native vegetation, and installing an irrigation system to support long-term vegetation health.
