Plumas County OHV Projet

The Plumas County OHV Project involves ground operations maintenance for approximately 79 miles of motorized trails, ATV routes, and 4x4 paths, as well as a 10-acre motocross track and staging area. Located within the Plumas National Forest in California, the work spans the Mt. Hough, Beckworth, and Feather River Ranger Districts. Key maintenance activities include brushing, grooming, tread armoring using native rock to prevent soil loss, and the installation of vehicle barriers and signs made from recycled materials to prevent off-trail use. Specialized equipment such as mini excavators, rock drills, and motorized wheelbarrows are required to complete these tasks. The project is administered by the Plumas County Facility Services Department in partnership with the Forest Service and Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, with monitoring conducted by both the Plumas National Forest and the county. All maintenance activities must adhere to strict technical standards, including Forest Service EM-7720-103 specifications, Forest Service Handbook FSH 2309.18 design parameters, and 2008 Soil Standards for routine monitoring. This project is categorized as a maintenance of existing recreational trails and has received a Notice of Exemption.
