Santa Ynez Reservoir Cover Replacement - Contingency Plan

LADWP’s Santa Ynez Reservoir must be drained and taken out of service to replace the damaged floating cover. LADWP is proposing a contingency plan to establish a temporary alternative water supply to the Pacific Palisades area as a precautionary measure while the reservoir is not in service. The proposed contingency plan involves the temporary laydown of a 10-inch diameter high pressure hose between Temescal Tank (located in Pacific Palisades) and Corbin Tank (located in Topanga), a distance of approximately 6 miles. In the event of an emergency, the Corbin Tank would supply water to the Temescal Tank via the 10-inch hose and three diesel fueled portable pumps. The pumps will be staged at Corbin Tank and will only be deployed and operated for performance testing and in the event of an emergency. The temporary hose is expected to remain in place until the new cover is installed and the reservoir is refilled, estimated to take 9 months. By implementing this contingency plan, LADWP will ensure that adequate water supply to the Pacific Palisades area is maintained in the event of an emergency.
