Additionally, the project involves the demolition and replacement of surrounding concrete pads to create new platforms. The work is scheduled to take place over approximately 30 days in early fall 2026, during a period of limited visitor use to minimize impact. The project is located in Pollock Pines, El Dorado County, California, specifically within the Sly Park Recreation Area. Full Description

The El Dorado Irrigation District (District) is proposing to replace two existing restroom facilities and effluent vaults at the Sierra and Chimney Campgrounds located in the Sly Park Recreation Area (SPRA). The restrooms serve the campgrounds as well as other recreational users in the SPRA. These facilities were extensively damaged during heavy storms that occurred in February of 2026 and require complete replacement of both the underground vaults and the restrooms due to structural damage. The work activities would involve the use of an excavator, crane, and hand tools to remove the existing restrooms and excavate the vaults. The excavated vaults and other materials would be disposed of in compliance with State and local requirements for the removal and disposal of waste materials. The sites would be cleared of debris and prepared for the installation of new vaults, which would be lowered into place by a crane or excavator arm. Once the vaults are in place the new restrooms would be placed on top of the vaults with a crane or excavator arm and secured in place. The work will occur within the previously disturbed areas immediately adjacent to the existing paved roadways. The concrete pads surrounding the existing facilities would be demolished and replaced on-site to provide a new platform for the facilities concurrently with the removal of the existing restrooms and vaults. The campground areas surrounding the facility would be closed to visitors and/or campers during the time of year when the SPRA has limited visitor use. The work is expected to occur during early fall 2026 over a period of approximately 30-days.
