The project consists of approval of a special event permit for The Mammoth, an approximately 218-mile ultra-marathon beginning and ending in the Town of Mammoth Lakes and circling the Long Valley Caldera. The event will occur from October 2 through October 6, 2026, with up to 250 runners and approximately 1,500 total attendees, including participants, volunteers, crew members, vendors, and spectators over the course of the event.
The project includes temporary use of existing County facilities as overnight aid stations, including the Crowley Lake Ball-field from October 2 through October 3 and the Pioneer Solar Pavilion at Gus Hess Park from October 3 through October 5. Aid stations will provide food, medical support, supplies, and temporary sleeping accommodations for participants. No permanent construction or physical alteration of County facilities is proposed.
