Hoover Street Lift Station Flood Protection Project

The Hoover Street Lift Station Flood Protection Project is situated at the northern end of Hoover Street near Eureka Slough in the unincorporated Myrtletown area of Humboldt County, California, within the state’s coastal zone. The project aims to safeguard the existing lift station and associated wastewater infrastructure from current and future threats posed by coastal flooding and sea-level rise. Key elements of the project include constructing a 370-foot interlocking steel sheet pile floodwall around the lift station and adjacent sewer manholes, relocating and realigning water and sewer utilities, implementing onsite drainage enhancements, and restoring wetland areas impacted by construction activities. The floodwall is engineered to provide protection through projected sea-level rise conditions up to the year 2080 while ensuring uninterrupted wastewater service during and after construction. The Humboldt Community Services District is leading the initiative, with Terrence Williams serving as the primary point of contact and Andrea Hilton as the technical director overseeing environmental planning. The project is forecasted to be posted on August 6, 2026, and the place of performance is designated as 95501 in California. All construction and restoration efforts are designed to comply with coastal zone regulations and environmental standards, balancing infrastructure resilience with ecological preservation in a sensitive coastal environment.
