The Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) Program, managed by the National Institutes of Health, integrates three prior programs to support the acquisition or upgrade of advanced scientific instruments or integrated systems. Eligible applicants are groups of NIH-supported investigators seeking to enhance research capabilities through shared-use instrumentation that promotes collaborative efforts, rigorous measurements, and broad accessibility. Awards range from a minimum of $300,000 up to $5 million, with no upper limit on instrument cost, although cost sharing is required for premium or specialized equipment. The program emphasizes optimal sharing of the purchased instruments to maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness in research operations. Clinical trials are not permitted under this grant. Interested parties can contact Dr. Xiang-Ning Li for further information, and applications are to be submitted through Grants.gov. This initiative aims to foster innovative and reproducible research by providing access to cutting-edge technology across the scientific community.

Full Description

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) announces the restructured Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) Program that consolidates three existing shared-use instrumentation programs, i.e., the Shared Instrumentation Grant program, the High-End Instrumentation Grant program, and the Basic Instrumentation Grant program. The NOFO invites applications from groups of NIH-supported investigators to purchase or upgrade a single item of state-of-the-art commercially available instrument or an integrated instrumentation system. The instruments purchased through the SIG Program require to be optimally shared among the users to ensure efficient and cost-effective research operations, enable rigorous and reproducible measurements, and encourage collaborative research and benefit broad research communities at large. The minimum award is $300,000. There is no cap on total cost of the instrument; however, the maximum award is $5,000,000. Cost sharing is required for premium instruments or special use instruments.

Federal
Acquisition of a Bio-Rad ChemiDoc Imaging System for the Genitourinary Malignancies Branch (NCI/CCR/GMB)The National Institutes of Health, through its Office of Acquisition and Logistics Management, intends to award a non-competitive contract to Bio-Rad Laboratories for the procurement of a ChemiDoc Go Imaging System to support prostate cancer research within the Genitourinary Malignancies Branch of the National Cancer Institute. The current imaging system has failed due to a discontinued UV illumination drawer and can no longer be repaired, disrupting critical laboratory workflows used by over ten researchers for visualizing chemiluminescent western blots and agarose gels. The replacement will maintain operational continuity without requiring staff retraining or new infrastructure, as the new system is compatible with existing accessories and sample handling equipment. The acquisition will be conducted under the Federal Acquisition Regulation’s Simplified Acquisition Procedures, not exceeding the $350,000 threshold, and relies on statutory authority allowing single-source procurement without full competition. The contract is classified under NAICS code 334516 with a small business size standard of $1000, and no set-aside is applicable. All responses must include a technical and cost proposal, period of performance, Unique Entity ID, Taxpayer Identification Number, business size certification, and active SAM registration, and must be submitted electronically to the contracting officer by July 9, 2026, at 9:00 AM Eastern Time. While this is a presolicitation notice with no requirement for competitive bidding, the government will consider any submitted capability statements to determine whether to maintain a non-competitive award or initiate a competitive process. The procurement is authorized under FAR Part 13, exempting it from full competition requirements, and will incorporate all applicable provisions through FAC 2026-01. The instrument will be delivered and deployed at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.
