This contract involves the implementation of planting approximately 1,184,475 trees across 18 blocks in the Williams Lake area, scheduled for spring 2026. The exact number of trees will be finalized based on nursery lifts in February 2026. Planting is set to begin once the snow is cleared in April, though the actual start date may vary and is weather-dependent, with the work concluding by June 21 unless extended due to unforeseen circumstances. The project covers sites at elevations between 500 and 1500 meters, including areas with natural regeneration or previous plantations, some with limited road access and increased risk of overhead hazards due to lack of prior harvesting. Mechanical site preparation has occurred on only a few blocks. The contractor is responsible for daily coordination and communication with the Ministry of Forests, including immediate responses to block releases, updating seedling tracking software, reporting progress in RESULTS, and generating professionally signed and sealed documentation. Seedlings are planned to be stored primarily at High Country Cold Storage in Kamloops. Ministry staff will conduct periodic inspections of work sites, camps, and storage locations. Planting activities may be postponed or canceled due to extreme heat or drought conditions. The contract emphasizes close collaboration, professional reporting, and adaptability to weather and site conditions throughout the planting period.

Full Description

This is a contract to implement planting of approximately 1,184,475 trees on 18 blocks for planting in the spring of 2026; final numbers will be determined by nursery lifts that occur in February 2026. This contract is active starting at snow free in April, but start date for planting is not assured, and ending June 21, weather dependent. The planting may be extended if there are extenuating circumstances beyond the control of Ministry Staff or Contractor; likewise, planting may be cancelled or delayed if weather becomes prohibitively hot and/ or dry with no likely precipitation. The planting units are located around Williams Lake at elevations between 500m and 1500m. While some blocks may have had mechanical site preparation, the blocks within this contract are mostly fill plants of natural stocking or previous plantations. Many of these blocks were not harvested previously and so will have higher instances of overhead hazards as well as less robust road network access. The Implementation contractor is expected to manage the day-to-day relationship and pay plotting, and Ministry staff may periodically inspect the worksite, camp and/or cache locations. Seedling cold storage locations will be finalized in February, current plan is to have all seedlings located at High Country Cold Storage in Kamloops. The Implementation contractor is required to have daily written correspondence with the ministry of Forest, be present and available everyday of planting, be able to quickly payplot released blocks as they are released, update seedling tracking software, report and update RESULTS, produce professional reports, sign/seal and declare blocks.
