The U.S. Army Installation Management Command (IMCOM) is executing a mandate under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to transition Contract Security Guards (CSG) at domestic Army installations to Department of the Army Security Guards (DASG), thereby reducing reliance on contracted personnel and increasing direct Army staffing in line with Secretary of Defense Resource Management Directive 802. This initiative affects 46 installations in total, with 29 installations scheduled for conversion by September 30, 2010, and the remaining 17 by July 26, 2011, coinciding with the expiration of existing CSG contracts. The conversion will eliminate four CSG contracts altogether and reduce one contract to cover only Fort Hood, with two additional contracts reducing in the second phase. Installations involved in the FY2010 phase include major sites such as Fort Drum, West Point, Fort Carson, and Fort Knox, while the FY2011 phase includes installations like Fort Bragg, Fort Benning, and Fort Hood. Certain locations, including Fort Rucker, will maintain CSG contracts for specific roles such as airfield security, and some Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) installations will continue using CSG contracts until at least mid-September 2011 with potential staffing reductions as closures near. Additionally, contracts at future Joint Bases under Air Force jurisdiction will expire by September 30, 2010. This phased transition reflects a strategic move to consolidate Army security forces under direct Army oversight, improving control and potentially enhancing security posture. The point of contact for inquiries is Mrs. Terry Kohler of the IMCOM Physical Security Branch.
