How to look up a NAICS code by company name
The NAICS lookup above searches by keyword. To find the NAICS codes a specific company actually uses on government contracts, search the CLEATUS contractor directory instead. Every contractor profile lists the NAICS codes that company has registered and been awarded under.
- Open the contractor directory.
- Search the company's legal business name (the name on its SAM.gov registration).
- Open its profile and read the NAICS codes section.
This is the fastest way to answer two common questions:
- "What NAICS code does my competitor bid under?" Look up the competitor and compare their codes against yours. Contractors frequently miss a code the rest of their market uses.
- "What NAICS code did this company register in SAM.gov?" The profile reflects registered and awarded codes, so you can confirm a partner or subcontractor is classified the way you expect.
A company almost always carries several NAICS codes: one primary code plus every additional code it registered. There is no single "correct" code for a business, so review the full list rather than assuming the first one is the one that matters.

Can I find a NAICS code by company name?
Yes. Use the contractor directory rather than the keyword lookup. Search the company name, open its profile, and its registered and awarded NAICS codes are listed there.
How many NAICS codes can a business have?
As many as genuinely describe what it does. In SAM.gov a business selects one primary NAICS code and any number of additional codes. Size standards are applied per code, so a company can be a small business under one code and other than small under another.
Where do I find my own NAICS code?
Your registered codes are in your SAM.gov entity registration. If you are choosing codes for the first time, use the keyword lookup above and confirm the size standard for each code before registering.
Do NAICS codes change?
Yes. The NAICS system is revised every five years, most recently in 2022. Codes are occasionally merged, split, or renumbered, so re-check your registration after each revision.
